While 900 numbers in the United States began in earnest in 1989 with AT&T MultiQuest’s offering, the Canadian 900 number industry did not begin until 1993 when Stentor began overseeing the provision of 900 numbers in Canada.

The Canadian 900 number system is similar to that of the United States and was actually patterned after the American model. The only difference in Canada is that the Canadian provincial phone companies charge .35 per minute and 10% of the cost of the call plus $100.00 per month.
